Flashback “Fun”day
Ugh. I hate puns. Don’t ask me why I turned the title of this post into a pun. It is not punny at all. Ack!
This Flashback Friday is a special one. At this very moment I am actually off painting Halifax red with my bestie, Erika.
That’s right. We’re t-u-f-f.
Erika and I actually went to kindergarten together. We were then reunited in the eighth grade when I moved and switched middle schools.
It was cool to be grungy in 1999. At least, it was cool if you were 13.
Erika and I remained besties into middle school. We were attached at the hip, despite being part of a giant group of friends.
I’m the one in the red on the left. Don’t try to keep up with my hair colours ;)
In grades 11 & 12, if it was a Saturday night, me and Erika were in her white Sunfire cruising up and down St. George Blvd in Moncton. Usually we were without destination, but we found our own fun along the way.
Such as having eating competitions at Boston Pizza.
After graduation, we went our separate ways. I went to Fredericton, she went to Halifax. We haven’t really kept in touch that much, just a few visits to Halifax every now and then. Even though we don’t see each other much anymore, we still click whenever we get together. Just like no time passed!
No matter what, when I’m with Erika, I’m having tons of fun. And now that we’re over 19, that often includes tons of beer. (okay, that happened before 19 too ;) )
Okay. Maybe too much beer and fun :P
When news of my singledom broke, it became apparent that some Susan-Erika time was necessary asap. This Valentine’s weekend seemed like the puuurfect time.
So please excuse my MIA-ness from the blogosphere for the next few days. I need to rest my fingers for some mean pointer-dancing this weekend ;)
Question of the Day: Who’s your bestie? What makes them awesome? Erika is actually one of two besties. She’s awesome because while our interests are completely different, our sense of humours are exactly the same. My other best friend Meghan was my old roommie! I wouldn’t even call her a friend, she’s more like family. She’s the best person to watch trashy TV with because hilarious commentary always ensues :)

Have a wonderful time reconnecting! It’s always wonderful to have someone in your life that you don’t have to keep in constant touch with and yet still be close.
I’ve been fortunate to have gained a bestie from each stage in my life: a bestie from childhood/HS, a bestie from college, and a bestie from grad school. They are all special in different ways!!
My bestie and I have been best friends since we were 5! We were living apart for a while when we first got out of college, but somehow, we both ended up in the same city! :)
Enjoy your bestie weekend!
I don’t have a bestie. I moved a lot and was on military bases full of people that moved a lot. I had a new “best friend” pretty much every year. It kinda sucks but it kinda is fun too. :)
“So please excuse my MIA-ness from the blogosphere for the next few days. I need to rest my fingers for some mean pointer-dancing this weekend ;)”–
LOL!!!!!!!!!
And ‘sphere breaks are such a good thing. Totally agree. I need to listen to my own advice and take one :) HAVE A BALL this weekend.
Bestie. It’s hard. I dont live near any of them and i am married with kid, they are single. Lives are so diff but the distance sucks. Enjoy your time with your bestie, makes me sooo happy that you have this, Susan. Awesome :) Happy VDAY!!!
Thats great that you get to spend some time with an old friend!!
Ive known my bestie since we were 6. Lots of ups and downs and a few years of not seeing each other, but like you said, regardless of where we are in life, when we get together, its like no time has passed at all.
I actually just got to spend time with my bestie in New York! We were potluck roommates our freshman year of college and have been stuck together ever since!
Have an awesome time in Halifax this weekend and enjoy some always fun girl time!
Aw, this post warmed my heart. I love seeing close and beautiful friendships like yours.
I have a few close friends, and they are all in my church. I love that we share the same faith, same goal, and same thoughts!
This is so sweet :) Kind of bittersweet for me though, because I kind of just had a “break-up” with one of my besties, all the way back from Junior High. Luckily I still have several others from when I was young who I am close to, but it’s sad when friendships end. I’m glad you girls have each other :)
My beasties have changed. I don’t know if I have one right now. I have a dear friend Teri who I can just say anything to. I have a really good friend Ervina who keeps me grounded. I have a dear friend from college..whom I’ve lost contact with..but makes me laugh until I die.
friends do change, but those ones that you can pick up the phone and not play catch-up with are the treasures in life.
Have fun with Erika! That’s awesome that you guys have stayed so close despite so much time apart. My bestie and I get together after year long gaps and pick up where we just left off. Though she has just had a baby so our wild nights out might be traded in for take-out and movies from now on!
My bestie is called Jonathan, we have been friends since I was born, he’s like my brother and best friend all rolled into one. He’s special because I can tell him anything and he will never judge just listen. I love him and feel so lucky to have a friendship like the one we have.
Have a blast with your bestie x x
Such cute pictures and memories! My bestie is Kristen and we’ve been best friends for 23 years just about! She’s the best because we can talk about anything and she’s the one friend that truly gets me!
love the pix. my bff is my co-blogger, christy! so lucky to have her in my life.
ohhh friends ARE the best valentines, no doubt.
my bestie…well i have two…three…four. i am going to cap it at four. my friend ashley who i have known since 5th grade, megan who i lived with for a year at her parents house (2nd family), other megan who was my penpal in 4th grade and my college roomie jamie. love them all :)
My #1 best friend is named Vanessa. We met when I was two so that makes us besties of 30 years! Vanessa has spina bifida and is in a wheelchair but that has never stopped us from having wildly fun times. Vanessa’s older sister Pam is another bff. She used to be my boss actually. I have another friend I used to work with named Chystal. We don’t see much of each other because she has two babies but we’re still close. Finally I have two new besties acquired this past year! Danielle and Jessi. I guess I’m pretty blessed with friends!
That is so cool that you guys just pick up where you left off. Love that. I know you’re having a blast.
I have besties from each segment of my life: high school, college, etc but my real true bestie who I can say absolutely anything to, and who doesn’t judge me ever ever ever is Derek. I’m beyond lucky to have found him.
