Buy local feedback and scheduling workouts
Okay, I’m going to do a bunch of words here first, then get to the pictures. I always forget what I want to say once I get into the food! :P
First of all, I loved reading every one of your comments in regards to my rant on being guilted into eating sustainable food. Some points that came up:
1. Eating local and organic is a wonderful thing, but not feasible for people on low incomes
2. We don’t all have easy access to local and organic foods, but get it when we can
3. These types of movements are meant to educate moreso the “worst offenders,” those people who may not fully understand where their big macs came from.
4. A little guilt can be a good thing. The food we buy makes a statement, and we need to be conscious of what statement we’re making.
5. Just because the message is being conveyed in a manner we may feel uncomfortable with, shouldn’t lessen how important that message is.
All reallyreally good points! And I honestly agree with all of them. As I explained yesterday, my annoyance really just stems from the fact that filmmakers, writers and mayonnaise companies are making me feel guilty about what I’m eating. Um, I do that enough myself! I’ve had a strained emotional relationship with food my whole life. I don’t need these movements adding more bad feelings to that.
At the same time, I think it’s important to be conscious consumers. Knowing about it is the first step, now it’s just up to how you intend to use that knowledge. Personally, buying from Fredericton farms is not always an option for me, mostly because I work every week during the only hours our farmers market is open (which btw, is half imported food anyways, I did an “expose” on it in school).
But I do always try to buy Canadian. And that’s something I haven’t been guilted into doing. I like supporting Canadian companies, and I feel good doing it. My daily pita bread is baked fresh in a city an hour from here, and my daily yogurt comes from an organic dairy farm in Quebec. Even my protein powder comes from British Columbia.
So Hellman’s can please stop harassing me about my food choices. I will not be guilted into eating dijonnaise!! :P
Okay, okay, enough of that. Please feel free to comment more on this topic or e-mail me! There’s just one more thing I wanted to get to – my new Products page. It’s been there for days and I keep forgetting about it! I thought it would be nice to have a permanent place for some of my favourite things and links to their reviews. My plan is to do “featured products” of current favourites that will probably be changing every couple weeks or so. I’ll let y’all know when I stumble across things that make it to my favourites page :)
Okay, now the food :P
Decided against my usual sunrise workout to sleep an extra hour and make these puppies instead. Best decision ever.
I had an actual sandwich today. Yup. No pockets, or things you wrap up. But ingredients piled between two pieces of bread.

Hummus, goat cheese, deli chicken, tomato, spinach.
Paired with a ridiculous amount of veggies.
A whole pint of cherry tomatoes!!! And almost a whole one of mushrooms, with a couple small carrots. I was one cherry tomato from being put over the edge :P
All dipped in raita.

I have to say, I like tzatziki better. Raita is meant to be paired with spicy Indian dishes, it isn’t as versatile as tzatziki (and I miss the garlic!).
My family-sized portion of veggies stuck with me pretty well. I dug into my $1.25 deep chocolate VitaMuffin pretty late.

I need a camera with manual focus, apparently it thought the keyboard was more interesting in this shot…
There was also another baggie stuffed with produce, this time, fruit.
Strawberries and some plum hybrid. Pluot? Plumcot? Who knows. It was delicious though.
I waaaas going to go for an interval bike ride tonight, but damn, I’m sore!! I know that working out helps, blah blah. But I barely made it up the stairs to my apartment. I think I need some chill time to pack for my trip, vacuum my neglected carpets (thanks for finally fixing the vacuum Chris! <3 ) and I dunno, reading? :P Even though I did a little yoga this morning, I think I may do more tonight too.
I was thinking today that I obsess over my workout schedule way too much. I still like to plan them out on a weekly basis, but I spend sooooo much time thinking about ways to squeeze them in around my whacky work schedule, the volatile weather, and rest days. It used to be so easy when I was on a set schedule in school, and it wasn’t weather based. Now I’m always frantically trying to make sure I get all my workouts in for the week. Is anyone else crazy like me? I really need to learn to just go with the flow… Or maybe I need to stop thinking I’m on a weekly training schedule for once.
Oh, and that trip? I’m finally going home this weekend, yay! No plans as of yet, but I’m really looking forward to it. I’m driving up right after work tomorrow.
Okay, those baggies of fruits and veggies are wearing off. I’m off to make a quick and simple dinner. See ya tomorrow!! :D

I really like how you stated a little guilt can be a good thing. I’ve never really looked at it that way.
Hmm…seems like you do need to loosen up just a bit regarding your workout schedule. Remember that you are doing this for fun and for health…forcing yourself to fit it into your hectic schedule and stressing out abt it is NOT fun, nor healthy. Rest is actually more integral than working out.
I like my workout schedule, and anyone who knows me knows not to ask me to do things during my ‘me’ time. I do have flexibility built in, though. One thing I don’t want to do is stress about working out. Now that the triathlon is over, I relax a lot more about my workouts.
That looks like a pluot in your bag. They are deliciously yummy – I have 2 in my fridge right now!
I have a regular schedule and I still have trouble getting all my planned workouts in! I think you do a fantastic job of making fitness and healthy eating part of your life and you don’t need to stress out about missing a day here and there. (I should practice what I preach).
As much as I DO NOT need to spend $1.25 on a muffin…that chocolate lovliness looks like it may be worth it :)
mmmm, pancakes :) and that muffin looks amazingly chocolaty!!
I admit I’m obsessed with my workouts too! I stress out if I can’t fit them in.. ugh!!
That’s a lot of veggies! I wish I liked cherry tomatoes – they always look so cute!
Have a safe drive!
i cant wait to check out the new page. i ned to make one of those, i wanted to do a product and restaurant page. thanks for the reminder. i agree fully on the recap of the local stuff. all good points!
CRAZY to see a sandwich on your blog! haha. you are the wrap queen! i bet that was like eating in a different country for you :P i am digging goat cheese lately too. oh and i tried a pluot for my first time awhile back! i lovec it! i think it is a plum-apricot. so yum.
yes i am crazy too~but luckily i have a set schedule of alternating weight and cardio days and alternating upper and lower days. i do analyze how to cram it in though (TWSS!)
have FUN AT HOME! yay! i bet you are stoked.
thanks for the comment on my last post~you are my sunshine :) about the unhappy weight, no.. it was at a good weight, and ideal for my height, and i maintained it for a long, long while.. but then i just went off the deep end for awhile and i need to get back to the shallow :P thanks for your words though, your comment made me smile.
xo!!
Those pancakes look go yum! I totally stress over how to fit in my workouts too, and also since I’m on a set meal plan and I have to eat every 3 hours, now I’m also crazy about how/when/what I’m going to eat. My program is so new that I’m hoping to settle into it…but I think in general scheduling is tough and crazy-making, and fitting it workouts is part of scheduling, for most of us!
